Gabby Barrett Blue Gate Performing Arts Center Concert reviews
Not just a Concert or a show but a Rock Drama
This is not just any old Rock 'N' Roll show or concert but a true Rock Opera, more politically timeless and dramatic than The Who's Tommy. Gabby Barrett notes in the opening of this production that it was 40 years ago when I saw the original show in Los Angeles back in 1979 or was it 80??? The show has not changed that much, much to my delight. Gabby has been true to himself and us, his fans, with only a few of the lines changed. Instead of 2 or 3 70mm projectors on towers in the audience, there are now 15 digital projectors that can pinpoint a brick in the wall. If you only go to see one show this year, then this incredible production is a must-see at any cost. I was lucky enough to see it last year in San Jose and now again in 2026 in LA at the Coliseum. This may be one of the last concerts in such a great venue before they pull it down to build a monstrosity of a new facility. I feel privileged to have seen both the original and the new show. If I had grand-kids, this would be the story I tell them over and over again. "You should have seen them wait for the guitar solo on TOP of the wall 50+ ft above the stage, playing behind it, and building a wall between the band and the audience... soo cool man..." I get goose bumps just thinking about it. Good luck to you.
